The Journey of “A European Princess” Continues: The Documentary on Andronica Castriota Arrives in Thessaloniki

The international journey of the documentary “A European Princess” continues with a new screening dedicated to the life and legacy of Andronica Castriota, known in Albanian tradition as Donika Kastrioti, the wife of George Castriota Skanderbeg and an important figure in 15th-century European history.

The documentary will be screened on 9 May at 4:00 p.m. at the “Manolis Anagnostakis” Hall of the Municipality of Thessaloniki, located at 1 Vasileos Georgiou A’.

Produced by A.R. Production, the documentary is based on Professor Lutfi Alia’s monograph “Donika and Gjon Kastrioti”. Through historical reconstructions, performances and contributions from scholars, the film explores the life and historical role of a woman who represents an important link between Albanian memory and European history.

The screenplay was written by Martin Cukalla, while the documentary was directed by distinguished artist Ylli Pepo. It features performances by Taniela Sulko and Papas Nik Pace, as well as contributions from scholars Daniel Goerlich, Giancarlo Vallone and Pëllumb Xhufi.

Lindita Ngresi, President of MILOSAO – Popoli e Culture, also contributed to the documentary by designing and preparing its costumes. MILOSAO’s involvement reflects the association’s continued commitment to promoting Albanian historical and cultural heritage through initiatives that connect peoples, territories and shared memories.

The Thessaloniki screening represents another important stage in the documentary’s cultural journey, following presentations in various international settings. Through the language of cinema, “A European Princess” brings renewed attention to Donika Kastrioti and highlights her human, political and symbolic importance.

The initiative involves several cultural and institutional partners, including the Municipality of Tirana, the B40 Balkan Cities Network, AM Production, Replay and MILOSAO – Popoli e Culture.
