The BUNK’ART Section within “The Italian Dream” Exhibition

As part of the historical and documentary exhibition “The Italian Dream: The Albanian Exodus and Immigration in the 21st Century”, Centro URA is presenting a section of BUNK’ART outside Albania for the first time.

Known as the “Red Section”, this part of the exhibition explores some of the most dramatic aspects of 20th-century Albanian history, with particular attention to the communist regime, political repression, restrictions on fundamental freedoms and their impact on Albanian society.

The BUNK’ART materials enrich the broader narrative of “The Italian Dream”, helping visitors understand the historical conditions that preceded the large-scale migration from Albania to Italy. The crisis of the communist system, the difficult democratic transition and the search for freedom are essential elements in explaining the exodus of the early 1990s.

The inclusion of BUNK’ART is especially significant because it marks the first presentation of this section outside Albania. Documents, photographs and historical materials reconstruct the political and social climate of the period, connecting the memory of dictatorship with the later migration across the Adriatic.

The initiative is promoted by Centro URA in cooperation with the Puglia Region, the University of Salento and ASAL Student, as part of a wider project dedicated to historical memory, research and dialogue between Albania and Italy.

“The Italian Dream”, including the BUNK’ART section, will remain open to visitors until December 2015.
